Esta empresa es propiedad de AES Gener y Mitsubishi Corporation. Desarrolla el proyecto termoeléctrico Cochrane, ubicado en Mejillones en la región de Antofagasta, que inició su construcción en abril de 2013 y considera dos unidades termoeléctricas a carbón de 266 MW brutos cada una. También, contempla una línea de transmisión de 220 KV de 153 km de extensión. Cochrane obtuvo su aprobación ambiental en 2009, lo mismo que la línea de transmisión, para evacuar la energía del proyecto al SING. La planta se emplazará a un costado de la existente Central Termoeléctrica Angamos, aprovechando sinergias asociadas a servicios portuarios y acopio de carbón, entre otros. La central considera el uso de tecnología de carbón pulverizado, utilizando carbón bituminoso y sub-bituminoso como combustible e incorpora sistemas de abatimiento para controlar emisiones de SO2, NOx y material particulado. Aproximadamente, el 100% de la energía producida por la central será para la venta a clientes mineros y ambas unidades deberán conectarse al SING hacia fines del año 2016. El proyecto conectará eléctricamente Termoeléctrica Cochrane al Sistema Interconectado del Norte Grande (SING) y complementará el servicio con un Sistema de Almacenamiento de Energía a través de Baterías denominado BESS (por sus siglas en inglés).
THE COMPANY:
This company is owned by AES Gener and Mitsubishi Corporaton., and it is currently developing the Cochrane thermoelectric project, located in Mejillones, Antofagasta region, which started its construction in April 2013 and it considers two coal-based thermoelectric units of 226 MW each. It also contemplates a 220 KV, 153 km-long transmission line. Cochrane obtained its environmental approval in September 2009, as well as its transmission line to evacuate the project’s energy to the SING. The plant will be located next to the existing Angamos Thermoelectric Power Station, using the synergy associated to the harbor and coal store services, among others. The power station considers the usage of pulverized coal technology, using bituminous and sub-bituminous coal as fuel and it incorporates reduction systems to control the emissions of SO2, NOx and particulate matter. Approximately 100% of the power produced by the power station will be sold to mining clients and both units must be connected to the SING by late 2016. The project will electrically connect the Cochrane Thermoelectric Power Station to the Norte Grande Interconnected System (SING) and it will complement the service with an Energy Storage System through BESS Batteries.
