LA COMPAÑÍA:
Amec Foster Wheeler (ex Petropower Energía Ltda.), es una sociedad conformada por Foster Wheeler Power System (85%) y Enap Refi nerías (15%). Fue creada para llevar adelante un proyecto único en su tipo para este continente, al unir una tecnología de coquifi cación con otra de cogeneración, lo que equivalente a tres proyectos en uno, ya que cuenta con igual número de unidades: una de coquifi cación retardada, otra de hidrotratamiento y una tercera de cogeneración. Está planta de cogeneración está ubicada en la comuna de Talcahuano,Región del Bío Bío y aparte de abastecer a la refi nería de petróleo, aporta al SIC. Con una inversión cercana a los 240 millones de dólares, este complejo ha permitido a la refi nería, procesar crudos más pesados y convertir aquellos fondos de pitch, en productos más nobles y con mayor valor de mercado, como son el diésel sin azufre, la electricidad, el vapor de alta presión y también las gasolinas sin plomo. Esto involucró mejorar no sólo la fl exibilidad del procesamiento y la economía de la refi nería, sino lo que es igualmente importante, mejorar sustancialmente el efecto sobre el medio ambiente al generar productos más limpios.
THE COMPANY:
Amec Foster Wheeler (ex Petropower Energia Ltda.) is a partnership made of Foster Wheeler Power System (85%) and Enap Refi nerias (15%). It was created to carry out a one-of-a-kind project in this continent, by combining coking technology with cogeneration technology, which is equal to three projects in one, since it has the same amount of units, one of retarded coking, one of hydro-treatment and a third one of cogeneration. This cogeneration plant is located in the Talcahuano commune, Bío Bío region, and in addition to supplying petroleum to the refi nery, it contributes to the SIC. With an investment of almost 240 million dollars, this complex has allowed the refi nery to process heavier crudes and to transform those pitch bottoms into more noble and more valued products, like diesel without sulfur, electricity, highpressure steam and unleaded gasoline. This involved the improvement of not only the processing’s fl exibility and the refi nery’s economy, but, which is equally important, the effect over the environment by generating cleaner products.
