CENTRO DE INVESTIGACIÓN E INNOVACIÓN EN ENERGÍA MARINA (MERIC)
El Centro de Investigación e Innovación en Energía Marina (MERIC), es un centro de excelencia iniciado por la empresa DCNS y financiado por el Ministerio de Energía a través de CORFO, donde participan como co-ejecutores Enel Green Power Chile, la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, la Universidad Austral de Chile, Fundación Inria Chile, Fundación Chile, y Chilectra como empresa asociada. MERIC (por sus siglas en inglés) ha sido creado con el objetivo de establecer un referente nacional e internacional en energía marina renovable, que impulse el desarrollo de la energía marina a través de la investigación aplicada, del desarrollo tecnológico y de la innovación. La investigación de carácter interdisciplinario que se realiza en MERIC, permite comprender la dinámica del ecosistema relacionada con la extracción de energía marina, así como la manera de adaptar
las tecnologías actualmente existentes a las condiciones extremas de Chile. Paralelamente, MERIC está estudiando las experiencias internacionales en relación a procedimientos, reglamentos y políticas públicas en este tema que puedan ser de utilidad en el caso chileno. El Centro busca asegurar una adecuada gestión del impacto ambiental y social de los proyectos de energía renovable en el mar, teniendo en cuenta los intereses de las comunidades, y trabajando en modelos y protocolos que apoyen la toma de decisiones.
MARINE ENERGY RESEARCH AND INNOVATION CENTER (MERIC)
The Marine Energy Research and Innovation Center (MERIC) is a center of excellence created by DCNS and financed by the Ministry of Energy through CORFO, where Enel Green Power Chile, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Austral University of Chile, Fundacion Inria Chile, and Fundacion Chile participate as co-executors, and Chilectra as associated company. MERIC has been created with the purpose of establishing a national and international referent in renewable marine energy that promotes the development of marine energy through applied research, technical development and innovation. The interdisciplinary research carried out at MERIC allows understanding the ecosystem’s dynamic related to the extraction of marine energy, as well as the way to adapt the currently-existing technologies to Chile’s extreme conditions. At the same time, MERIC is studying the
international experiences regarding the procedures, regulations and public policies in this subject that might be useful for the Chilean case. The Center wants to guarantee a proper management of the environmental and social impact of the renewable energy projects on the ocean, considering the interests of the communities, and working in models and protocols that support the decision-making process.
