26 noviembre, 2020
the International Energy Agency will launch its new report reviewing the energy policies of Korea on Thursday, 26 November, at 9:00 AM Paris time.
Following the online publication of the report, the IEA will be hosting a press webinar at 10:00 AM Paris time, with Joo Young-joon, Deputy Minister at the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and Dr Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency. The webinar is open to journalists and will also be livestreamed.
The IEA regularly conducts in-depth peer reviews of the energy policies of its member countries. This process supports energy policy development and encourages the exchange of international best practices and experience.
The Korean government’s pledge of a Green New Deal as part of its Covid-19 economic recovery package in July 2020 is a significant step towards accelerating Korea’s energy transition. Achieving the ambitions of the Green New Deal will require addressing regulatory and institutional barriers, introducing more flexible energy markets, and making use of the country’s expertise in advanced technologies and innovative capacity.
In this report, the IEA provides recommendations for further improving Korea’s policies to help the country guide the transformation of its energy sector towards a secure and sustainable future.
The report will be shared under embargo with reporters who sign up for the webinar. It is also available upon request at press@iea.org.
Please note that the report and other materials are under embargo until 9:00 AM Paris time on Thursday, 26 November. |
