Press webinar for the launch of IEA’s Turkey Energy Policy Review 2021
11 marzo, 2021
The International Energy Agency will host a press webinar to launch its new report reviewing the energy policies of Turkey on Thursday, 11 March, at 10:00 AM Paris time, with Deputy Minister Dr Alparslan Bayraktar of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey and Executive Director Dr Fatih Birol of the International Energy Agency.
The webinar is open to journalists and will also be livestreamed.
The IEA regularly conducts in-depth peer reviews of the energy policies of its member countries. This process supports energy policy development and encourages the exchange of international best practices and experience.
The guiding principles of Turkish energy policy continue to be market reform and energy security. Rapid economic and population growth in the past two decades have not only driven strong growth in energy demand but also an associated increase in import dependency.
In response, Turkey has prioritised boosting domestic energy production, diversifying its supply sources and associated infrastructure, and reducing energy consumption through increased energy efficiency.
Notwithstanding the many positive changes Turkey has made toward liberalising its energy markets and diversifying its energy sources, the government should ensure that its policies do not impede the economic efficiency of markets and the country’s longer-term decarbonisation efforts. In this report, the IEA provides Turkey with recommendations to further bolster its energy security and navigate its future energy challenges and opportunities in the most cost-efficient and sustainable way.
The report will be shared under embargo with reporters who sign up for the webinar. It is also available upon request at press@iea.org.
Please note that the report and other materials are under embargo until 10:00 AM Paris time on Thursday, 11 March.
