The International Energy Agency will host a press webinar to launch its annual market report on energy efficiency on Thursday, 3 December, at 11:00 am Paris time. The press webinar will be led by Dr Fatih Birol, the IEA’s Executive Director.
Energy Efficiency 2020 is the IEA’s update on global energy efficiency trends, providing policy makers and other energy decision makers with crucial insights.
Using energy more efficiently can contribute significantly to reducing global greenhouse gas emissions and meeting international climate goals. Energy efficiency measures also have tremendous potential to create jobs, spur economic growth, achieve cost savings for businesses and cut consumer energy bills. This is why efficiency was a key element in the IEA’s
Sustainable Recovery Plan that we released in June.
Energy Efficiency 2020 focuses on how the Covid-19 pandemic and turmoil in energy markets is affecting global energy efficiency progress, which has been weakening in recent years. It covers developments in key sectors including transport, buildings and industry.
The report includes new analysis on the amount of resources being dedicated to efficiency in economic stimulus packages around the world, assessing the level of investment and its spread across different sectors and regions. It also studies the effects of behavioural changes on efficiency – such as more teleworking, more walking and cycling, and fewer long-haul business trips.
The report will be shared under embargo with reporters who sign up for the webinar. It is also available upon request at
press@iea.org.
Please note that the report and other materials are under embargo until 7:00 AM Paris time on Thursday, 3 December.
